Dress and Adornment: Attire Worthy of the Occasion
Every occasion has its attire, and attire has its adab: a blessing to be thanked, beauty without arrogance, cleanliness and modesty. The etiquette of dress, clearly arranged.
Attire Worthy of the Occasion
When you invite your loved ones to your joy, each of you prepares in their finest garment; for clothing is a blessing Allah bestowed on His servants, and an adornment by which people beautify themselves at their celebrations and gatherings.
O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness, that is best.
Qur'an, al-A'raf 7:26
Verified against the Mus’hafAnd because it is a blessing and an adornment, Islam gave it adab that joins outward beauty with inward purity; we have gathered for you those that befit the adornment of occasions.
Islam gave clothing an etiquette by which a Muslim beautifies himself without arrogance or excess, tending his outward as he tends his inward with the mindfulness of Allah.
Beauty Without Arrogance
To adorn yourself for your occasion is beloved, for Allah is beautiful and loves beauty; yet the adab is that it be adornment without conceit or boasting of costly garments.
Indeed, Allah is beautiful and loves beauty.
Reported by Muslim, from Ibn Mas'ud

White, Cleanliness, and One's Finest
Among the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ in adornment is a fondness for white and care for the cleanliness of one's garment, and that a person wear the best they have for gatherings of joy.
Wear white among your garments, for they are among the best of your garments.
Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi (who graded it good), from Ibn Abbas
Verified against the sourceThe cleanliness and beauty of one's garment honour the occasion and honour the guests, and that is no arrogance at all so long as no pride or haughtiness mixes with it.
Modesty and Dignity
The finest adornment is that in which beauty and modesty meet, so the garment covers what should be covered, far from what stirs temptation or contradicts the guidance of Islam; one adorns oneself for family and loved ones in a dignity befitting the setting.
And Allah enjoined modest dress upon the believing women, to protect them:
O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their garments close over themselves.
Qur'an, al-Ahzab 33:59
