Birthday Invitation Wording: Ready Phrases for Every Age
A birthday invitation is read in seconds, so its words have to arrive faster. Here is wording for a child's party, phrases for a milestone, and short lines for WhatsApp you can copy and adapt.
Whose Day Is It? Tone Follows Age
Before you write a word, ask whose party this is. A child's party bursting with play is nothing like an evening honouring a cherished milestone, and neither is quite like a quiet family dinner.
Tone is the first thing a guest feels, and it tells them what to bring: a brightly wrapped gift or a single flower, play clothes or evening dress.
Make it playful for a little one, elegant and dignified for a milestone, warm and intimate for a family gathering. When the tone matches the moment, the invitation arrives before it is even read.
In invi2 you try more than one theme and more than one font for free until you find the tone that fits the celebrant, and you only pay when you publish.
Wording for a Child's Birthday
A child's invitation is read by the parents, not the child, so write for both: delight for the little one and clarity for the adult.
"The [family] family would be delighted to welcome you to [child]'s birthday, as they turn [number], on [date] at [time], at [venue]."
Or in a lighter voice:
"[Child] is turning [number], and there will be cake, balloons and a great deal of laughing. We will be waiting for you on [date] at [time], at [venue]."
And do not forget the one thing parents need most: an end time. An invitation that says "from 4 to 7" spares them the awkward question and makes your own planning easier.
invi2 gives the celebrant's name the head of the card alongside an age medallion, so a guest sees who they are celebrating, and how old they are, at a glance.
Wording for a Milestone and a Family Dinner
When someone reaches a cherished milestone, the invitation moves closer to tribute than to party:
"On the occasion of [name] turning [number], we would be delighted to welcome you to an evening in honour of someone we love, on [date] at [venue]."
A quiet family dinner needs only one honest line:
"Our dear mother [name]'s birthday. We gather for her on [date] over dinner, and your presence is the gift."
That last phrase solves an awkward question gracefully: a guest unsure whether a gift is expected finds the answer without having to ask. If you prefer to say it plainly, say it kindly: "your company is all we need".
Short Birthday Wording for WhatsApp
A WhatsApp message arrives before the card and is read in a second, so keep it to two lines:
"[Name] is turning [number]. We will be waiting for you on [date], details here."
"[Name]'s birthday, and the joy is not complete without you. Details inside."
"A small gathering for [name]'s birthday. Details and RSVP in the link."
If it is a children's party, put what concerns the parents directly in the message: "the party runs 4 to 7, venue in the link". A parent who knows their hours replies faster.
invi2 sends the message to each number individually from one Excel file, so there is no group chat exposing numbers and no copying and pasting.
RSVPs and Photos: What Comes After the Invitation
At children's parties especially, the head count decides everything: the cake, the chairs, the party bags. So ask for a reply clearly and kindly, and name a date for it.
"Kindly confirm before [date] so we can prepare properly for your little ones." One sentence spares you a hundred questions.
And after the party the photographs scatter across your guests' phones. Gather them while the moment is fresh; pictures not collected on the day are rarely collected later.
In invi2 you watch the attendance counts update moment by moment, and your guests share the party's photos in a private album only you can see, with no sign-in.
